Greece blamed a 'foreign state' on Saturday for the discovery of a sea drone off the Ionian island of Lefkada. Defense Minister Nikos Dendias stated that the craft was found outside Greek territorial waters and that authorities know what it is and what it contains.
The drone was found by a fisherman in a coastal cave on Thursday and later moved to a naval base on the mainland for inspection. Greek military sources reported that explosives were found on board, and the device was made safe for transport to Athens.
Military experts say the unmanned surface vehicle resembles a Magura-class sea drone used by Ukraine's armed forces against Russian ships in Crimea. The Kyiv regime has also admitted to targeting a Russian 'shadow fleet' oil tanker with aerial drones in the Mediterranean.
A Ukrainian intelligence source claimed that the tanker QENDIL was struck in December and sustained critical damage. Reuters cited a maritime security source suggesting the drone may have been part of a larger shipment or drifted off course due to a signal failure.
