Human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi has been released on bail and transferred to a hospital in Tehran for medical treatment, her family-run foundation said Sunday, amid growing concerns over her health.
Mohammadi was granted a temporary suspension of her sentence in exchange for a substantial bail payment, the foundation said. She was taken by ambulance to Pars Hospital in Tehran to be treated by her own medical team.
Ten days ago, Mohammadi was hospitalized in Zanjan after collapsing in her prison cell. Her husband, Taghi Rahmani, said her condition was critical, with severe blood pressure drops and difficulty speaking.
Mohammadi was arrested in December 2025 after denouncing the Iranian regime at a funeral. In February 2026, she was sentenced to an additional seven and a half years for conspiracy and propaganda.
She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2023 while imprisoned for her campaign for women's rights and abolition of the death penalty.
