A cargo plane operated for retail giant Amazon has crashed after overrunning the runway while landing at Miami International Airport, disrupting operations at one of the busiest airports in the United States.

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said in a social media post that a Boeing 767-300 aircraft overran the runway at 2:00 PM ET (6:00 PM GMT) upon arrival from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue reported that the plane struck multiple vehicles and caught fire after the crash, and crews were working to extinguish the blaze and assess the condition of those affected.

The number of crew members or passengers on board remains unclear, and no details regarding potential injuries or fatalities have been provided. An Amazon spokesperson said the plane was operated by 21 Air and experienced "an incident" while attempting to land.

"We're working closely with local authorities and officials to understand exactly what happened," said Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel. "Right now, our absolute priority is the safety, wellbeing, and care of everyone involved. We're doing everything we can to support those affected."

Videos circulating online show black smoke billowing from the scene near the runway, with early reports indicating the aircraft veered off the runway and crossed a road adjacent to the airport. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) confirmed it was aware of the crash and will provide updates as more information becomes available.

US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said his agency had issued a full ground stop in Miami after the incident, urging travelers to anticipate "significant delays." The cause of the incident is unknown, and the FAA is investigating.
