Al-Nassr were seconds away from clinching their first Saudi Pro League title in seven years when goalkeeper Bento scored a bizarre own goal in stoppage time, handing local rivals Al-Hilal a 1-1 draw on Tuesday.
The Brazilian shot-stopper misjudged an overhead save, sending the ball into his own net and sparking scenes of disbelief among the home fans. A win would have sealed the league championship for Al-Nassr and given Cristiano Ronaldo his first domestic trophy since joining the club in January 2023.
Al-Nassr top the table with 83 points from 33 games, five points ahead of second-placed Al-Hilal (78 points from 32 matches). Ronaldo, 41, posted on social media after the match: "The dream is close."
Fans were given free shirts before the game, creating a sea of yellow in anticipation of the title win. Al-Nassr face 15th-placed Damac in their final league match on May 21; a victory will secure the championship.
