Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has announced his 26-man squad for the 2026 World Cup, with the most surprising inclusion being 34-year-old forward Neymar. The decision comes despite the player's ongoing recovery from a serious knee injury.

Neymar is Brazil's all-time leading scorer with 79 goals, but he has struggled to regain full fitness since tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in October 2023. Many local analysts and former footballers had deemed his participation in the tournament unlikely just days ago.

Ancelotti, who took over the Brazilian national team in May 2025, had not called up Neymar until Monday's announcement. The Italian coach extended his contract with the Brazilian Football Confederation last week, tying him to the team through the 2030 World Cup.

As expected, the squad also includes key players from recent years, Vinicius Junior and Raphinha. However, Ancelotti will be without injured forwards Rodrygo and Estevao for the tournament in North America.

Neymar's inclusion could bolster Brazil's attacking options, but his physical condition remains a major concern. The decision is seen as a significant gamble by Ancelotti, who has faced a troubled spell in charge of the Seleção so far.
