Daniela Klette, one of the last remaining members of the left-wing terrorist group Red Army Faction (RAF), has been found guilty of a series of armed robberies and sentenced to 13 years in prison. The 67-year-old had been living under a false identity in Berlin for over 30 years.

The court previously dismissed an additional charge of attempted murder related to a 2015 robbery, but federal prosecutors have brought new attempted murder charges for attacks in the early 1990s. Terrorism charges have passed their statute of limitations.

Klette was arrested in February 2024 in central Berlin, where she had been living as "Claudia Ivone" for some 20 years. Police found fake Italian documents, weapons including a Kalashnikov, around €240,000 in cash, and gold bars in her apartment.

During the trial, Klette justified her actions and apologized for trauma caused to victims. She did not confirm RAF membership, saying only that the group "played an important role in her life."

Experts say Klette's role in the RAF was not particularly important. After the group's dissolution in 1998, remaining members became ordinary criminals. However, Klette enjoys some support in far-left circles in Germany.
