At least 16 people have died from heatstroke in the southern state of Telangana as a severe heatwave grips large parts of India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to take precautions.

In a series of social media posts, Modi warned of heat exhaustion symptoms and advised staying hydrated, especially for children, the elderly, and outdoor workers. He also called for providing water to birds and animals.
