Hundreds of supporters of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a satirical social media movement in India, gathered in New Delhi after weeks of grabbing headlines. The party is a play on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Hindu-nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
CJP has attracted millions of online followers, with its Instagram page amassing over 22.2 million followers. Its slogan: 'A political front for the youth, by the youth, for the youth.'
Protesters demanded the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan following an exam irregularity controversy in May, which fueled frustration over India's education system and limited job opportunities.
Demonstrators carried the national flag and a book, symbolizing the right to education and equal opportunity. Police tightened security, setting up steel barricades at key points.
The group's rise mirrors a trend across South Asia, where youth movements born on social media have been crucial in anti-government protests. Young Indians make up over a quarter of the population but face high unemployment and disillusionment with traditional politics.
