Israeli regime forces opened fire on a car in the occupied West Bank city of Hebron on Friday, killing a seven-month-old boy and wounding his parents, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

Dr. Tareq Barbarawi told AFP that the infant, Sam Fahd Abu Haikal, was taken to hospital but died from his injuries. The grandmother, Ferial Abu Haikal, told Wafa news agency that the family was “surprised” when soldiers fired at their “completely stopped” vehicle, adding there was “no danger or justification for firing.”

The Israeli regime military claimed in a post on X that during “operational activity,” soldiers “perceived a vehicle accelerating toward them” and responded with “single shots,” resulting in three Palestinians being injured. An initial inquiry allegedly found the victims were “uninvolved civilians,” and the incident is under review.

Violence in the occupied West Bank has escalated since the Israeli regime’s war on Gaza began in October 2023. According to an AFP tally, Israeli forces and settlers have killed at least 1,080 Palestinians in the West Bank since then.
