Cape Verde's 40-year-old goalkeeper Vozinha (Josimar Jose Evora Dias) delivered a stunning performance in a 0-0 draw against Spain in their World Cup opener, denying the European champions multiple times.
Vozinha made crucial saves at the end of the first half, blocking shots from Ferran Torres, Pedri, and Aymeric Laporte, earning him the player of the match award.
The goalkeeper plays for Chaves in Portugal's second division. His nomadic career includes stints in Cape Verde, Angola, Moldova, Portugal, Cyprus, and Slovakia.
His nickname "Vozinha" means "little granny" in Portuguese, given by his grandparents. His Instagram following skyrocketed from 500,000 to nearly 5 million after the match.
An emotional Vozinha broke down in tears after the game: "I grew up with my grandparents, and unfortunately they were not here. My mother couldn't make it due to visa issues," he said.
French star Paul Pogba praised him on social media, writing: "The Cape Verde goalkeeper is really something, waaaaw."
