️ The United States has expressed alarm over reports that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and allied militias are encircling the city of el-Obeid in Sudan, warning that an assault could lead to mass atrocities and worsen the already catastrophic humanitarian crisis.
️ In a statement on Monday, the US State Department said the RSF was "massing forces" around el-Obeid, calling on the belligerents to cease actions endangering civilians and to uphold international humanitarian law. The statement noted "alarming indications that mass atrocities could be imminent."
️ The conflict between the RSF and the Sudanese army, which began in April 2023, has killed tens of thousands and displaced millions. The UN has warned that an attack on el-Obeid could mirror the October 2025 assault on el-Fasher, which bore "hallmarks of genocide."
️ The UN Human Rights Council reported over the weekend that 500,000 civilians in el-Obeid are at risk of atrocities, with 50 civilians killed in drone strikes over the past 10 days in el-Obeid and North Kordofan.
️ The US regime reiterated calls for unimpeded humanitarian access and urged all parties to take immediate steps to prevent further suffering and protect civilians.
