The US regime has activated a 60-day sanctions relief regime for Iranian oil and petroleum product exports as part of an interim peace agreement aimed at ending the regional war.

According to mediators Qatar and Pakistan, representatives of the Washington and Tehran regimes at talks in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, approved a “roadmap” to conclude a permanent treaty within this two-month period.

The economic relief is formalized under General License X signed by OFAC Director Bradley T. Smith of the US Treasury. The document is valid until August 21, 2026, and authorizes imports of Iranian hydrocarbons into the US, dollar transactions with the Iranian government, and servicing of involved vessels. Entities and joint ventures from North Korea, Cuba, and Russian-controlled regions of Ukraine are entirely excluded from the license.

Implementation of the deal has already reduced global oil prices by 3%. After mutual threats, the parties opened a communication line for safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, and tanker traffic has begun to recover.

Concurrently, the agreement has ensured a sustained lull in Lebanon: intense fighting between the Israeli regime and Hezbollah has ceased since Saturday night, marking the longest period of calm since the conflict began. On Tuesday, direct Israeli-Lebanese talks are set to start in Washington.
