Iran and the United States concluded a round of indirect technical talks on Wednesday with no sign of progress toward a lasting peace. Instead, the two sides focused on issues that were supposedly resolved under an interim agreement announced two weeks ago.
The talks were held in two sessions. The first addressed alleged US violations of its obligations, and the sides agreed to establish a communication channel to resolve disputes.
The second session dealt with the release of $6 billion in frozen Iranian funds. It was agreed that the funds would be used to purchase goods needed by Iran.
US Vice President JD Vance claimed discussions were held on the Strait of Hormuz. Informed sources said Tehran's nuclear program, frozen funds, and the conflict in Lebanon were also on the table.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf denied reports that IAEA inspectors had access to Iranian nuclear sites bombed during the 12-day war last year, stating that only two locations are accessible.
Qatari and Pakistani mediators reported "positive progress" during the talks. The next meeting is expected after the funeral processions for the former Iranian Supreme Leader.
