In the night of July 2, Russia launched a massive airstrike on Kyiv. According to the latest data, 17 people were killed and over 90 wounded in the Ukrainian capital.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia launched 74 missiles and 496 drones across Ukraine overnight. Air defense systems intercepted or neutralized 524 targets — 48 missiles and 476 drones.

“A distinctive feature of this attack was the simultaneous use of various types of air attack weapons from different directions, as well as the use of a large number of ballistic missiles and attack drones,” the statement said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said more than 20 objects in the city were damaged, “most of them ordinary residential buildings,” as well as an ambulance station, a research institute, a hotel, and other facilities.

“It was a terrible night for Kyiv,” said Mayor Vitali Klitschko. According to him, destruction was recorded in all districts of the city. “The greatest damage was observed in a residential building in the Darnytsia district. A part of the building literally disappeared,” he wrote.

July 3 was declared a day of mourning in Kyiv.

The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed a “massive strike with high-precision weapons” across Ukraine, calling it a “response to terrorist attacks by the Kyiv regime on civilian infrastructure on Russian territory.” The ministry claimed the strikes targeted “military-industrial enterprises and fuel and energy facilities in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, as well as the infrastructure of military airfields in Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, and Kyiv regions.”

The previous major strike on Kyiv was carried out by the Russian army on the night of June 15. Then, five people were killed and 35 wounded in the Ukrainian capital. Drones also damaged the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, causing a fire on the roof of the Dormition Cathedral.

Two days later, Ukraine launched the largest air attack on Moscow and the Moscow region in the last two years. As a result, 17 people were injured. The Moscow Oil Refinery was also hit.
