Despite not scoring in Spain's quarterfinal win over Belgium, Lamine Yamal was named player of the match. The 18-year-old shared a touching moment with his little brother during post-match celebrations in Los Angeles.
Yamal has not scored since Spain's group-stage win over Saudi Arabia on June 21. He failed to find the net again as Spain booked a semifinal spot. "Obviously I want to score, but I don't go onto the pitch thinking about that. I do it thinking about helping the team," Yamal said.
"If we win the World Cup, no one will remember whether I scored goals... The important thing is winning," said the Barcelona star. He added that his movements draw opponents, allowing him to contribute even without goals.
Despite the lack of goals, Yamal has performed consistently and broken records. He made his sixth World Cup appearance, the most by a player aged 18 or younger in the competition.
During celebrations, Yamal and his half-brother Keyne, 3, shared a sweet moment when Keyne was shown on the big screen. Keyne, a fan favorite, often accompanies Yamal to events.
