Uzbekistan has begun actively using new land trade corridors launched by Pakistan that bypass Afghanistan through Iran and China, Podrobno.uz reports.
According to the Jerusalem Post, Tashkent has already utilized the route via Iran's Gabd-Rimdan border crossing to transport agricultural machinery and industrial raw materials. These transport arteries, which became operational in April 2026, provide Central Asian states with alternative access to Pakistani ports and global markets.
Pakistan opened these two new corridors through Iran (Gabd-Rimdan border crossing) and China (Sost dry port) after closing its main transit points on the Afghan border—Torkham and Chaman—indefinitely in October 2025 due to security concerns.
To date, over 14,000 metric tons of cargo have been transported via both new routes. The official launch of one corridor took place during a coordination ceremony in Karachi, attended by high-ranking representatives from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.
The first truck convoy delivered frozen meat and other export goods to Tashkent and Bishkek via Iran. Pakistan also sent its first export consignment from Karachi's free economic zone to Kyrgyzstan through the Sost dry port under the TIR system.
Additionally, the 3,300-kilometer Bishkek-Karachi corridor, operating under the Quadrilateral Agreement on Transit Transport, has already completed its first mutual commercial deliveries: Kyrgyz trucking companies delivered minerals and textiles to Pakistan.
Separately, Hemani Group transported a 23.9-ton consignment to Kyrgyzstan using Pakistan's electronic Single Window customs system.
The new network expands the use of the TIR transit regime and Pakistan's Single Window system, which electronically processes customs documentation for cross-border shipments.
Furthermore, Pakistan is increasing the role of the Gwadar deep-sea port under the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. The port, located about 400 kilometers east of the Strait of Hormuz, is expected to handle growing cargo volumes passing through the new land corridors amid regional trade route diversification.
