The FIFA World Cup 2026 final is set for Sunday, pitting Europe's top-ranked team, Spain, against South America's No. 1 side, Argentina. Spain aims for a second world title, while Argentina seeks a fourth trophy.
The two sides last met in an international friendly on March 27, 2018, at the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid, with Spain winning 6-1. The final kicks off at 3 p.m. local time (19:00 GMT) at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The venue, temporarily renamed New York-New Jersey Stadium, holds up to 82,500 spectators and has hosted the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final. FIFA has confirmed that US President Donald Trump will attend and is expected to present the trophy to the winners.
For the first time in World Cup history, the final will feature a Super Bowl-style halftime show. Performers include Madonna, Justin Bieber, Shakira, BTS, Burna Boy, Gustavo Dudamel, and the PS22 Chorus featuring Coldplay. The show will run about 11 minutes, with the halftime break potentially extended to 30 minutes.
Opta's supercomputer gives Spain a 45.1% probability of winning in regulation time, Argentina a 29.4% chance, and a 25.4% likelihood of extra time or penalties.
The next tournament will be held across Morocco, Spain, and Portugal, with Madrid the frontrunner to host the final. A centenary match will also be played in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay.
