Images shared on Friday showed a damaged bridge in Iran's southern Hormozgan province after the US military carried out its seventh night of strikes on Iran since President Donald Trump declared the temporary ceasefire agreement was 'over'.
US Central Command (Centcom) said its forces 'hit surveillance sites, military logistics infrastructure, underground weapons storage, and maritime capabilities' in the latest round of attacks.
Iran responded by targeting US allies in the region, including Kuwait, which reported another power and water plant hit by a hostile attack, causing a fire and deactivating some power generation units. Jordan's military said it intercepted 10 Iranian missiles, while Bahrain also claimed to have thwarted attacks.
Centcom said the strikes ended at 21:30 ET (02:30 BST) after several hours, employing fighter aircraft, aerial drones, and warships. Explosions were reported in Yazd, Qeshm island, and Bandar Abbas near the Strait of Hormuz.
The US and Iran had agreed to a ceasefire in June to enable talks, but negotiations made no headway, and Trump declared the ceasefire over last week. The US has also re-imposed a naval blockade of Iranian ports, while Iran has declared the Strait of Hormuz closed to shipping.
A fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas used to transit through the strait, and the head of the International Energy Agency, Fatih Birol, expressed concerns about global energy supplies.
The US military denied an Iranian report that two oil tankers exploded and caught fire on a mined route south of the strait, calling it false. Iran's armed forces claimed to have attacked multiple US military facilities in Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, and Syria, but the US denied this.
Sources told CBS that several American service members were injured during Iranian attacks on two Jordanian bases over the past week. The US also denied Tehran's claims of striking civilian infrastructure, including bridges, a train station, and an airport.
BBC Verify and BBC Persian confirmed damage to the Gariveh Bridge, with daylight images showing a crumbled stretch of road. Provincial authorities in Hormozgan said seven people were killed in the attacks.
A White House spokesperson told the BBC the US 'carried out strikes exclusively on military targets, including military logistics infrastructure'. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth shared an image of a destroyed control tower in the port of Chabahar, which Centcom said was part of an IRGC maritime surveillance network.
