Iran has issued a written statement attributed to its new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, rebuking recent US strikes and warning of 'unforgettable lessons' in store for the United States. The statement comes from a leader who has not been seen in public for months, according to DW.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that two American soldiers were killed and one is missing in action following Iranian attacks on Jordan. Four other service members were evacuated to Jordanian hospitals and have since been discharged.
In the statement, Khamenei allegedly called the US president's signature 'utterly worthless and devoid of credibility,' accusing the US of 'coercion, totalitarianism and brutality.' He criticized fresh American strikes on Iranian territory.
Iran's military claimed to have struck a US-used air base in Bahrain, targeting aircraft shelters, fuel storage tanks, and bridges. Bahrain's military said its air defenses intercepted and destroyed several aerial assaults.
Kuwait Petroleum Corporation reported significant damage to an oil facility after 'repeated Iranian attacks,' according to state media. A power and water desalination plant was also targeted. Kuwait's Foreign Ministry accused Iran of 'systematic aggression against civilian objects.'
Jordan's military said it intercepted 10 Iranian missiles that entered its airspace. Kuwait's army reported facing missile and drone attacks.
Major General Mohsen Rezaei, a senior military adviser to Khamenei, warned that if US strikes continue, Iran will move into 'full-scale offensive operations' and 'no political border will be safe.'
The US military launched strikes on Iranian 'surveillance sites, military logistics infrastructure, underground weapons storage, and maritime capabilities.' The Pentagon said its naval blockade of Iranian ports remains in effect.
