Controversial influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan Tate have been arrested in the United States, shortly after British authorities announced additional charges against them.
The UK's Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said Andrew Tate faces seven new counts of rape, along with other charges including sex trafficking and child pornography. Tristan Tate is charged with one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape, and three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation.
The alleged offenses are said to have occurred between July 2010 and August 2017. The Tates have previously denied any wrongdoing. Malcolm McHaffie, head of the CPS Special Crime Division, stated that the new charges bring the total number of alleged victims to seven.
The US Marshals Service confirmed the arrests, and a US Department of Justice spokesperson said they were made "pursuant to extradition proceedings." The CPS has requested the extradition of the brothers, who hold dual US-UK citizenship.
Joseph McBride, the Tates' lawyer, called the arrests a "political hit" and claimed the new UK charges are designed to counter a defamation lawsuit filed by the brothers in the US. "America does not do Britain's political dirty work," he said.
In May 2025, prosecutors confirmed that Andrew, 39, and Tristan, 37, will eventually face 21 charges in the UK. In 2024, Bedfordshire Police secured European arrest warrants to have them returned from Romania. In June, the brothers lost a legal bid to learn the names of their accusers.
