At least three people were killed and 15 wounded on Saturday morning when Russian forces struck the Ukrainian capital Kyiv with ballistic missiles, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

One of the injured is in serious condition, Klitschko said. In a post on his Telegram channel, the mayor added that “several people” were trapped in a residential building damaged during the assault.

The first and second floors of the building partially collapsed, he said, while some warehouses in the city were also on fire. Kyiv’s military administration, meanwhile, reported four deaths as a result of the overnight attacks on the city.

Reuters cited witnesses in Kyiv who reported more than a dozen explosions shaking the Ukrainian capital. The attacks come as Moscow has intensified its bombing campaigns in recent weeks and months.

Last week, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with his US counterpart Donald Trump and the UK’s new prime minister Andy Burnham as he seeks increased support to boost Ukraine’s air defences.
