An Istanbul court has sentenced two Uzbek nationals, 31-year-old Dilshod Turdimuratov and 29-year-old Gafurjon Kamolkhodjaev, to double life imprisonment for the murder of two Uzbek women, Durdona Khakimova and Sayyora Ergashalieva. The verdict was delivered by Istanbul’s 17th Heavy Penal Court.

The defendants were found guilty of aggravated murder and each was also sentenced to two consecutive seven-year terms for theft, resulting in an additional 14 years behind bars. The court’s decision brings a grim closure to a case that shocked the Uzbek community in Turkey.

The crimes occurred earlier this year. On January 24, the dismembered body of one of the Uzbek women was discovered in a garbage container in Istanbul. Police identified the suspects and detained them at Istanbul Airport as they attempted to flee Turkey.

During the investigation, it emerged that a day earlier another Uzbek woman had been killed in the same apartment. Her body was also dismembered and discarded in a garbage container. Investigators thus linked the suspects to both murders.

In court, Kamolkhodjaev claimed he alone killed Sayyora Ergashalieva and denied the involvement of his co-defendant in that particular murder. Turdimuratov, in his final statement, admitted that his actions “have no justification,” expressed regret, and said he deserved the harshest punishment.
