Washington has directed $5 million to develop the digital sector and cybersecurity of Central Asian countries. This was announced at the C5+1 conference on "superintelligence" taking place in Astana.
Representatives from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and the United States gathered in the Kazakh capital. The main topics of the meeting are artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, data processing centers, and protection from cyber threats.
Mark Cameron, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, said that Washington allocated $5 million to the region's countries through CRDF Global. The funds will go toward developing digital technologies and cyber protection. In particular, this includes training specialists, improving response to cyber incidents, protecting critical infrastructure and the financial sector, and developing national cybersecurity policies.
"We intend to contribute to raising the level of cyber hygiene, improving response to cyber incidents, protecting critical infrastructure, strengthening the security of the financial sector, and developing cybersecurity policy," Cameron stated.
The C5+1 conference also focuses on the development of neural networks, digital infrastructure, and data processing centers. Participants are discussing support for IT startups, joint research and training in AI, digital services, and cooperation with American technology companies.
Particular attention was drawn to the new name for artificial intelligence. US President Donald Trump previously proposed calling AI "superintelligence," as the word "artificial," in his opinion, "makes intelligence fake." Trump made the statement on September 22 during his speech at the UN General Assembly. It is also known that the US State Department recommended that American diplomats use the term "superintelligence" instead of the usual "artificial intelligence."
The meeting in Astana continued the agreements of the C5+1 summit held in Washington last November with the participation of the leaders of the five Central Asian countries and the US president.
