Law enforcement authorities in the US state of Illinois have announced the arrest of 19-year-old Alexandros Paporakis of Palatine, who allegedly outlined a detailed plan to carry out a mass shooting. Police stated that the suspect was taken into custody on Sunday following an alert regarding concerning electronic communications he had shared.
Detectives executing a search warrant at Paporakis’s residence reportedly recovered a rifle, multiple loaded magazines, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition. According to an official police statement, authorities also seized a tactical vest equipped with body armor and a patch displaying imagery commonly associated with white supremacist extremism.
Prosecutors from the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office claimed that a coworker of the suspect reported Paporakis openly identified as a white supremacist and purportedly stated he could not wait to kill Indian people. Investigators further uncovered a manifesto-style document expressing extreme ideologies and referencing targeted violence toward South Asians.
Authorities under the US regime believe the suspect was planning to execute the attack on Sunday, potentially targeting a Hindu place of worship located roughly 40 miles away in Aurora. However, law enforcement and the FBI conceded that the specific intended target remains unconfirmed as the investigation proceeds.
Paporakis is currently facing felony charges for allegedly making a terrorist threat and the unlawful possession of a weapon. The suspect appeared before a judge for a detention hearing on Wednesday, with his next court appearance officially scheduled for late October.
