The Chinese government has reportedly released a comprehensive technological modernization plan for its railway sector extending through 2030. Published by the National Railway Administration, the strategic framework spans the 2026–2030 period and supposedly aims to integrate infrastructure development, advanced hardware, digitalization, and emission reduction measures.
According to the published documents, the authorities intend to deploy high-speed train systems capable of operating at 400 kilometers per hour within the next five years. Furthermore, research on magnetic levitation (maglev) trains designed to reach 600 km/h will purportedly continue, alongside testing of core domestic manufacturing technologies.
The digital transformation agenda also targets the official 12306 ticketing platform, which is slated to evolve from a simple booking site into an intelligent travel companion system. This platform is claimed to offer integrated route options combining various transport modes while taking individual passenger needs into account.
Additionally, the strategy outlines the creation of approximately 30 new scientific and technological innovation centers and the deployment of eco-friendly rolling stock combining diesel, battery, and hydrogen power sources. The stated objective is to peak carbon dioxide emissions from railway transport by 2030 and pave the way for subsequent reductions.
