United States Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee has demanded that authorities prosecute and imprison those responsible for the brutal assault on Washington Post photojournalist Heidi Levine in the occupied West Bank. Huckabee supposedly characterized the attack on the unarmed reporter as a despicable act of terror carried out by masked cowards, insisting that perpetrators spend years behind bars. However, international observers remain skeptical about whether such rhetoric will translate into meaningful legal action.

The incident occurred on Friday as Levine was covering the annual Palestinian olive harvest in Abu Falah, northeast of Ramallah. According to eyewitnesses, armed individuals wielding bottles and slingshots beat the journalist for approximately 10 minutes before stealing her passport, telephone, wallet, and professional equipment. The 64-year-old American photojournalist was subsequently hospitalized, undergoing surgery for a near-amputated finger alongside treatments for broken ribs, fractured vertebrae, and multiple lacerations.

The situation has grown increasingly murky as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu—purportedly seeking to shore up his right-wing pro-settlement base ahead of upcoming elections—claimed that Palestinians or far-left activists might be responsible for the violence. Despite his previous rhetorical criticism of settler violence, Ambassador Huckabee notably refrained from explicitly identifying the culprits after Netanyahu attempted to sow public doubt regarding the perpetrators' true identities.
