Law enforcement authorities in the South Korean city of Hwaseong are investigating a citizen of Uzbekistan, in his 30s, who is allegedly suspected of brutally assaulting a 50-year-old local taxi driver. The violent incident reportedly took place on October 18 in the Hyangnam district, sparking renewed concerns over illegal transport operations.

According to information released by the local police, the suspect was allegedly engaged in illegal passenger transportation using his own vehicle. When the local taxi driver attempted to intervene and record the illicit activity on camera, the driver reportedly delivered a sudden, severe blow to the victim's jaw.

As a result of the impact, the victim lost consciousness and collapsed onto the ground. Security camera footage allegedly shows the assailant continuing to kick and beat the unconscious man before fleeing the scene without rendering any form of first aid or assistance.

South Korean police managed to identify the suspect on October 22 following a comprehensive analysis of CCTV recordings. The individual is expected to be summoned for official questioning shortly, and authorities indicate that the charges could potentially be upgraded depending on the victim's medical evaluation results.

Local law enforcement officials emphasize that illegal passenger transport services coordinated via the Telegram messenger are a widespread issue in Hwaseong. Back in May of this year, cases involving 29 foreign nationals—including individuals from Uzbekistan—engaged in similar illicit activities were already forwarded to the prosecution. Police and immigration services plan to intensify joint inspection raids by the end of the year to crack down on these unauthorized transport operations.
