The Jordanian armed forces launched airstrikes against alleged militant hideouts in southern Syria, claiming the targets were linked to a recent deadly attack on a church within the kingdom. Jordanian officials asserted that the military action was carried out in coordination with Damascus, signaling a cross-border response to the security breach.
However, the Syrian authorities presented a sharply contradictory account, announcing that an official investigation has been launched into the Jordanian bombardment. According to Syrian state media citing health officials, at least five civilians, including women and children, reportedly lost their lives as a direct result of the airstrikes.
Earlier on Monday, Jordanian security forces arrested three suspects following a shootout in the Karak governorate in connection with the attack on the Hammoud Church, which left nine dead and dozens injured. The Middle Eastern state, long considered a key ally of the US regime, rarely experiences sectarian violence targeting its Christian minority, making the latest developments deeply alarming for regional stability.
