️ Uzbekistan, Tashkent – AN Podrobno.uz. Azerbaijan has accused Iran of attacking civilian infrastructure in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. According to the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on March 5, Iranian drones struck the terminal building of Nakhchivan International Airport, with another drone falling near a school in the village of Shakerabad.
️ The foreign ministry reported that two civilians were injured as a result of the incident. Medical assistance has been provided to them.
️ In Baku, it was stated that such actions constitute a gross violation of international law norms and an encroachment on civilian infrastructure. The Azerbaijani side warned that it reserves the right to take adequate retaliatory measures.
️ In connection with the incident, Iran's Ambassador Mojtaba Demirchilu was urgently summoned to the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The diplomat was handed an official protest, and Tehran was demanded to provide clear explanations of what happened, conduct a thorough investigation, and take measures to prevent such incidents from recurring.
️ According to Azerbaijani media, Shahed-136-type kamikaze drones may have been used in the attack. At the same time, Reuters agency, citing sources, suggests that not only drones but also missiles could have been employed in the strike.
️ Nakhchivan International Airport is located approximately 10 kilometers from the border with Iran, making it vulnerable amid the current escalation in the Middle East. Following the incident, the airport's operations were partially restricted, and Azerbaijan's air defense forces were placed on high alert to protect the exclave.
