The High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine (HACC) on February 17 imposed a pre-trial detention measure on former Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko, arresting him for 60 days until April 15.
The court ruled that the former official could be released upon posting bail of 200 million hryvnias (approximately $3.9 million). However, the prosecution insisted on a higher amount.
If released on bail, he is prohibited from leaving Kyiv and the Kyiv region, communicating with other individuals involved in the case, including Timur Mindich, and is required to wear an electronic bracelet. Halushchenko stated his intention to appeal the court decision and begin raising funds for legal defense, according to the Interfax-Ukraine news agency.
The former minister was detained on February 15 while attempting to leave Ukraine. According to the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine, he is a suspect in the "Midas" case, related to alleged embezzlement of funds at the state-owned company Energoatom.
