The Constitutional Court of Kyrgyzstan, in response to a request from the president, issued an official interpretation of constitutional provisions regarding the timing of presidential elections and ruled that the next presidential election must be held on January 24, 2027.

According to the court's conclusion, voting will take place on the fourth Sunday of January 2027 in accordance with the constitutional law "On the Election of the President of Kyrgyzstan and Deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh." Parliament must schedule the election no later than four months before the voting day, i.e., by September 24, 2026.

The court clarified that the current six-year term of President Sadyr Japarov is considered his first presidential term. Thus, the incumbent head of state has the right to participate in the 2027 election and, if victorious, serve a second term, which under the current Constitution will last five years.

Separately, the Constitutional Court addressed the possibility of early elections. The decision emphasizes that public discussions about the president's term length do not constitute a legal basis for holding an extraordinary vote.

The court stated that early elections are possible only in cases of premature termination of the president's powers—such as voluntary resignation, removal from office through established procedures, inability to perform duties due to health reasons, or death. This list is exhaustive, and any other grounds would contradict the Constitution.

In the absence of these conditions, holding early elections is legally excluded, the court noted.
