Kazakhstan, Nur-Sultan – Podrobno.uz. A referendum on amendments to the Constitution of Kazakhstan is taking place today, June 5. According to the Central Election Commission (CEC), the lists of participants include 12,046,617 citizens of the country. The process is organized using digital services, expanded monitoring capabilities, and special conditions for people with disabilities, as CEC representatives announced in a meeting with international journalists.
Voting will take place at 10,401 polling stations, including 71 stations outside the country in 54 states. More than 70,000 members of commissions at various levels are involved in the preparation. International observation is carried out by 359 representatives from 38 countries and 11 international organizations, with 256 national observer organizations also accredited.
Voting began at 7:00 and will conclude at 20:00. Regional commissions have been given two days to compile preliminary results, after which the final results must be published by the Central Commission no later than one week. Special attention has been paid to informing citizens: a polling station search service is available through the eGov portal, voting notifications are distributed through mobile banking apps and SMS messages, and members of precinct commissions have handed out personalized invitations with QR codes to citizens.
Polling stations also provide special conditions for people with disabilities: an audio version of the draft Constitution in Kazakh and Russian, materials in Braille, magnifying devices, and equipped workstations. According to the commission, special conditions may be required for more than 90,000 citizens. Voting is voluntary and does not involve fines for non-participation.
Funding for the referendum is carried out from the state budget. According to commission information, a significant portion of the funds is directed to paying the salaries of members of precinct commissions, who ensure the organization of the voting process across the country. Kazakh citizens abroad will be able to vote at stations opened at diplomatic missions.
