A magnitude 5.5 earthquake occurred in Tajikistan on April 3 at 15:26 local time, according to the Republican Center for Seismological Monitoring. The hypocenter was located at a depth of 10 km, with the epicenter at coordinates 39.27° north latitude and 71.01° east longitude – approximately 269 km southeast of Tashkent.
The tremors were felt in eastern and central regions of Uzbekistan. The highest intensity – up to 3 points on the seismic scale – was recorded in the Fergana Region, which is closest to the epicenter. Residents in this area experienced temporary alarm, but preliminary reports indicate no serious damage or injuries have been reported.
Tremors of up to 2 points were noted in the Namangan, Andijan, Syrdarya, and Tashkent regions, as well as in Tashkent city. Local authorities and emergency services are continuously monitoring the situation, but no assistance or evacuation measures have been initiated from the Uzbek side. The Tajik government has so far refrained from issuing official statements on the earthquake's consequences, raising concerns about the effectiveness of regional safety and monitoring systems in Central Asia.
