The military prosecutor's office in Kyrgyzstan has reported the detention of former deputy chairman of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS), Timur Shabdanbekov. This action was announced by the Kaktus.media outlet, citing sources within law enforcement agencies, with Shabdanbekov suspected of abuse of official powers.

According to clarifications from the 24.kg publication, in connection with this case, several other former and current SCNS employees are under investigation in addition to Shabdanbekov. This situation highlights the widespread nature of corruption issues within the agency and the government's decisive actions to address them.

Previously, on April 13, another former deputy chairman of the SCNS, Daniel Risaliyev, was also detained. He is suspected of crimes related to corruption and has been placed under house arrest by a decision of the court in Bishkek's Pervomaysky District. The detention of two high-ranking officials signals the initiation of a comprehensive anti-corruption campaign within the SCNS.

Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov dismissed Risaliyev on February 10, 2026, and Shabdanbekov on February 17. These dismissals followed the removal of Kamchybek Tashiyev, who had headed the SCNS since 2020. Japarov explained the decision to dismiss Tashiyev as an effort to prevent societal division, reflecting the government's measures to maintain internal order amid ongoing challenges.
