In Moscow on April 17, a meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers will take place, with the participation of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Representatives from nine countries will attend, with particular focus on cooperation with Central Asian states.

Lavrov will not only hold multilateral negotiations but also a separate meeting with the foreign ministers of Central Asian countries—Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan. Key issues are expected to include the development of regional cooperation and the implementation of agreements reached at the "Central Asia – Russia" summit held in Dushanbe in October 2025.

The ministers will also discuss regional security matters, including risks associated with the unstable situation near the borders of Central Asia and threats from international terrorist groups. These topics highlight significant challenges that could impact the economic and political stability of the region.

Other agenda items for the CIS meeting include summarizing cooperation results for 2025, developing integration ties, and preparing decisions to be later elevated to the level of heads of state. Additionally, changes within the Commonwealth itself, such as Moldova's announced intention to withdraw from the CIS by 2027, may be discussed, potentially affecting the future structure of the union.
