Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping held official talks in Beijing, signing around 40 documents and extending the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation. Bilateral trade hit a record $240 billion in 2025, with nearly all settlements in rubles and yuan.
Putin stated that Russia supplied China with 101 million tons of oil and 49 billion cubic meters of gas, highlighting Rosatom's nuclear projects. However, no progress was made on the Power of Siberia 2 gas pipeline. According to Reuters and FT, China demands a price comparable to Russia's domestic market, five times lower than the current $258 per thousand cubic meters.
Bloomberg and FT report that Beijing avoids long-term commitments, believing domestic gas consumption is near its peak. Moscow conceded by lowering the price for the existing Power of Siberia pipeline to a six-year low of $223.9 by 2027.
Xi warned against "unilateralism and hegemony," calling for defending the UN's authority. Putin confirmed his attendance at the APEC summit in Shenzhen in November and invited Xi to visit Russia in 2027.
Passenger traffic surged: over 2 million Russians visited China and over 1 million Chinese visited Russia. Russia continues modernizing the Baikal-Amur Mainline, Trans-Siberian Railway, and Northern Sea Route in coordination with China's Belt and Road Initiative.
