The political landscape in Kyrgyzstan is slowly shifting toward the next electoral cycle, with the first official bid submitted for the presidential election scheduled for January 27, 2027. The development marks the official start of what is expected to be a competitive nomination phase.

The candidate, 52-year-old Aymen Kasenov, has officially notified election authorities of his decision to run as an independent candidate. He purportedly stated that his campaign platform, titled 'Land, Water, Trust,' is already fully drafted, though he declined to elaborate further to avoid crossing into early campaigning regulations.

Kasenov's professional background features extensive experience in both the oil and gas sector and public administration. Between 2007 and 2015, he managed 'Gazpromneft-Kazakhstan,' subsequently served as an advisor to the mayor of Bishkek, and held a board position at the Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund from 2016 to 2018.

This is reportedly not Kasenov's first attempt at securing the presidency. He previously ran in the 2021 presidential election, where he secured a meager 0.91% of the total vote share.

The official candidate nomination period commenced on September 25 and is set to run through November 13, 2026. While other public figures, including Omurbek Suvanaliev and Syimyk Zhapykeev, have previously expressed intentions to run, no formal documentation has yet been lodged with the Central Election Commission by them.

Under current electoral laws, hopefuls must meet strict statutory requirements: they must be at least 35 years old, fluent in the state language, have resided in Kyrgyzstan for a cumulative period of no less than 15 years, collect a minimum of 30,000 voter signatures, and deposit a financial guarantee of one million soms.
