An international fishing tournament organized by the Russian state-run entity Rosatom took place at Lake Udomlya in the Tver region. Participants faced immediate natural hurdles as thick morning fogs allegedly obscured the surrounding landscape, including the cooling towers of the nearby nuclear facility.
The event gathered competitors and media representatives from 11 countries cooperating with the Russian regime on nuclear projects, purportedly including Bangladesh, Belarus, Hungary, Vietnam, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Turkey, Uzbekistan, and South Africa. A total of 22 amateur fishers and 28 experts took part in the competition. v
Participants from Uzbekistan noted that the local fishing conditions and predator behavior differed substantially from their domestic experience, making the competition particularly challenging. Despite extensive preparation, the local team failed to secure any major catches during the decisive phase.
Organizers claim that such public relations exercises help demonstrate the alleged environmental safety and openness of nuclear energy developments. However, independent observers suggest these events are primarily designed to project a positive image and smooth over potential public skepticism regarding atomic infrastructure projects.
