A 33-year-old man, M.Sh., has been sentenced to 15 days of administrative detention for acts of cruelty against cats at a hotel in the Bo'stonliq District of Tashkent Region. According to Bobur Tulanov, press secretary of the regional Department of Internal Affairs, the court found the man guilty under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Code of Administrative Responsibility, which stipulates 15 days of detention for cruel treatment of animals leading to their death or injury.

A second defendant, 30-year-old A.A., was convicted of insulting cats and shooting at them with a weapon. He received a 10-day detention sentence under Article 220−1 of the Code of Administrative Responsibility (Illegal Import of Weapons). This article provides for a maximum penalty of up to 15 days of detention and confiscation of weapons for officials, and according to the verdict, A.A. is considered an official.

The regional Department of Internal Affairs has not disclosed the full names of the detained men, both of whom work at the hotel. The department expressed gratitude to vigilant citizens who reported the violation. Previously, videos circulated on social media depicting the torture and killing of cats in Bo'stonliq, where two men were seen kicking and shooting at them. According to the Department of Internal Affairs, the incident occurred in December 2025.

The court ruling noted that a harsher penalty – up to 6 months in prison – is only imposed for repeated (after administrative punishment) acts of cruelty against animals resulting in their death or injury. This case highlights the enforcement of legal measures to protect animal rights, but raises questions about the effectiveness of penalties and preventive measures in such incidents.
