In Uzbekistan, a shocking case of animal cruelty has occurred in the "Zvezdochka" (May) dacha complex near the village of Zafarabad in Tashkent Region. Preliminary reports indicate that unknown individuals deliberately poisoned approximately 30 dogs, most of which were sterilized and under the care of volunteers. Eyewitnesses describe the incident as a planned action to exterminate animals, noting that the deceased dogs were socialized and friendly towards humans, having been fed and treated by local residents for years.

The situation is exacerbated not only by ethical concerns but also by serious health risks for the public. The bodies of the dead animals remain on the territory of the complex, creating a critical sanitary and epidemiological situation amid spring warming and posing a direct threat of infection spread. Despite this, there has been no response from relevant services regarding the disposal of the remains, raising alarm among local residents.

Local residents express extreme concern over the impunity of the perpetrators, pointing out that a similar case of mass poisoning occurred in this area six years ago, but the culprits were never found. The territory is equipped with surveillance cameras, which theoretically could help identify those involved, yet there is no official information about the initiation of investigative actions or checks by veterinary services.

Uzbekistan is tightening penalties for animal cruelty. Recently, in the Bostanlyk district, two employees of a recreation area received 10 and 15 days of administrative arrest for killing dogs. The public expects that the incident in Zafarabad will also receive proper legal assessment, highlighting ongoing issues related to animal welfare and public safety in the region.
