Social media in Uzbekistan circulated claims that a resident of the Sokh district in Fergana region died due to actions of a law enforcement officer. The regional police department denied the allegations, stating the cause of death was alcohol intoxication.
According to reports, on April 8, a 60-year-old man intoxicated caused a public disturbance. An administrative protocol was filed against him under Article 187 (consumption of alcohol in public places).
The next day, April 9, the man was notified of the fine. Again intoxicated, he argued with the neighborhood police officer. Surveillance cameras recorded him being released and going home after the incident.
It was revealed that over the previous 8-10 days, the man had barely eaten, consuming only alcoholic beverages. His health deteriorated, and on April 11 he was hospitalized in intensive care, where he died on April 13 despite medical assistance.
A preliminary medical report attributed the death to chronic alcohol abuse and severe alcohol poisoning. The prosecutor's office is currently investigating the case.
