A major corruption scheme linked to a water supply improvement project has been uncovered in the Pskent district of the Tashkent region, according to Podrobno.uz.
The inspection was carried out by the Anti-Corruption Agency, the regional department of the Economic Crimes Department, and the compliance service of the state water company Uzsuvtaminot. Control measurements were conducted at the Sag'anak water facility in the Guliston mahalla.
It was found that the head of the Pskent district branch of the Tashkent regional water supply company colluded with other officials. As a result, 14,800 meters of water pipes worth 3.0784 billion soums (approximately $280,000) were stolen and embezzled out of the allocated 3.9312 billion soums.
The Economic Crimes Department for the Tashkent region has initiated a criminal case under Article 167, Part 3, Clause 'a' (embezzlement on an especially large scale).
Authorities stressed that the fight against corruption will continue under the principle of inevitable punishment for any violations. Citizens are urged to report corruption cases via the Agency's call center at 1253.
