Uzbekistan, Tashkent – Podrobno.uz. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the city of Margilan to review the progress of a large-scale project – the scientific, educational and tourist complex “Burkhanuddin Marginoni”. Built on the “city within a city” principle across 35 hectares, the facility is intended to become a new hub for pilgrims and history enthusiasts from around the world.

The project, worth 1.7 trillion soums, was designed by Turkish company “Studio Vertebra”. In the first phase, construction has been completed on a hotel, a caravanserai, a crafts center, and a unique museum “House of Otabek and Kumush”, which recreates the atmosphere of the famous novel “Bygone Days”. The complex also houses a national market, a maqom theater, a library, and an alley of artists.

The head of state inspected craft workshops and an exhibition of applied arts, emphasizing the importance of preserving the ancient traditions of Margilan. According to preliminary estimates, the complex will receive up to 250,000 foreign tourists annually. This will create 2,000 new jobs and ensure service exports worth $30 million. In the second phase, a business center, a mosque with a capacity of 1,500 people, and an oriental bazaar with 300 seats will be built.

The experience of Margilan will serve as a model for the renovation of historical centers in other regions. Similar tourism infrastructure projects are planned for Bukhara, Samarkand, Kokand, Namangan, and the old city part of Tashkent. The large-scale work is aimed at turning Uzbekistan’s cultural heritage into a powerful driver of regional economic growth.
