From May 1, new public transport tariffs will come into effect in Samarkand, aimed at drastically reducing cash payments. The decision was made at the 29th session of the regional council of people's deputies. The key change is a twofold difference in fare depending on payment method: cash payment (via QR code tickets) will rise to 4,000 soums, while payment with transport or bank cards will remain at 2,000 soums.
These measures are a preparatory step towards a complete elimination of cash payments on buses, electric buses, and trams in the city. The Samarkand Regional Transport Department officially stated that cash acceptance for fares will be fully discontinued in the near future. Passengers are strongly advised to switch to non-cash payment methods in advance, using ATTO cards, bank cards, mobile apps, or infokiosks to purchase tickets.
In addition to the tariff changes, authorities have set the task of optimizing transport schedules. Buses on all city routes will now operate until 10:00 PM, while on popular tourist routes, transport will run around the clock. This is expected to improve mobility for residents and visitors during nighttime hours.
The previous price change occurred in April 2025, when the cash fare was set at 3,000 soums. The current increase to 4,000 soums is intended to maximally encourage citizens to use digital services and make financial flows in the transport sector fully transparent.
