Uzbekistan, Tashkent – AN Podrobno.uz. The Ugam River and its surrounding territories will soon be granted the status of a state hydrological natural monument. This step is driven by an alarming ecological situation: recent studies have recorded a steady decline in water flow and an increase in factors negatively affecting water quality. These processes threaten bank erosion, damage unique aquatic fauna and flora, and increase the risk of biodiversity loss in this important region.

During a presentation of nature conservation measures, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev approved proposals to save the Ugam ecosystem and preserve its unique heritage. The head of state ordered a full inventory of all facilities in water protection zones and an assessment of their impact on water quality. The activities of enterprises that do not meet environmental requirements will be halted or relocated to other sites.

Under the new status, a strict ban on construction and earthworks that disrupt the natural hydrological system will be introduced in coastal areas. A master plan titled "Improving the Ecosystem of the Ugam River" will be developed for the comprehensive restoration of the territory, including large-scale planting of trees and shrubs to prevent land degradation. Similar enhanced protection measures will apply to the "Yazyavan" natural monument and the "Ovjazsay — Sinegorye" park, where new infrastructure will be created with careful preservation of landscapes.
