A presidential resolution “On measures to further improve the natural hydrological regime and biological diversity of the Ugam River” has been adopted.

According to the document, the Ugam River in the Tashkent region has been declared a state hydrological natural monument.

Starting June 1, 2026, any construction, earthworks, and erection of artificial structures that could negatively affect the natural hydrological system and ecological balance are strictly prohibited in the river’s coastal and water protection zones.

Specifically, the construction of hydraulic engineering, hydro-reclamation facilities, buildings, hydroelectric power plants, water regulation and diversion structures in the river basin and its tributaries is completely banned (with the exception of reconstruction of existing hydroelectric facilities).

Allocation of land plots for construction within the territory of the state hydrological natural monument “Ugam River” is not allowed.

The composition of a government commission to study the negative environmental impact of facilities located in the coastal and water protection zones of the Ugam River and their compliance with environmental requirements has been approved, along with its main tasks.
