Uzbekistan is conducting large-scale raids to combat illegal fishing during the peak spawning season. Eco-police officers, together with law enforcement agencies, are carrying out inspections across the country to protect water resources during their most vulnerable period.
Despite the seasonal ban, damage from poachers already amounts to tens of billions of soums. One of the most serious incidents was recorded in the Kashkadarya region. A resident of the Gisar mahalla was detained for illegally catching 412 specimens of the Amu Darya trout, listed in the Red Book, and 6 crucian carp from the Tankhoz River.
The environmental damage is estimated at a staggering 12.7 billion soums. Disregard for environmental legislation and fishing rules during the breeding season threatens the conservation of rare species. All materials from the Kashkadarya case have been transferred to the prosecutor's office for further action.
It is worth recalling that a seasonal ban on fishing is in effect due to the spawning period. Any interference during this time can lead to a sharp decline in populations and even the extinction of certain species.
