The Tashkent city administration has officially announced the start of construction on a new metro line in the capital. The project plans to commission six new stations by 2027.
The new line will run from the Sergeli district to Yunusabad, covering densely populated areas of the city. It is expected to significantly reduce the transport load on existing routes.
The project is valued at $1.2 billion, with China Railway as the main contractor. Construction work began in the second half of 2024.
According to the city administration's press service, the new line will have a capacity of 500,000 passengers per day, increasing the total capacity of the Tashkent metro by 30 percent.
The project includes four above-ground and two underground stations. Each station will feature modern design and technology, including accessible entrances for people with disabilities.
Experts say the new metro line is a significant step in solving Tashkent's transport problems. However, concerns have been raised about the budget burden and potential delays in construction timelines.
