Uzbekistan is conducting its first-ever agricultural census in history. This process is part of the population census from January 15 to February 28, 2026. Citizens are asked 71 questions, with 17 related to agriculture.
Madina Yuldasheva, a representative of the National Statistics Committee, stated that agricultural censuses were first conducted globally in the United States in 1840 as part of population censuses. It later evolved into an independent statistical event and has been implemented in many countries. According to international organization recommendations, it is conducted every 10 years and serves as a key statistical source for agricultural sector development.
Georgiy Kvinikadze, an expert from the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), noted that during the Soviet era, Uzbekistan conducted statistical studies on specific agricultural aspects (e.g., livestock counting), but they did not provide detailed information.
In 2023, a pilot project was carried out in Parkent and Jomboy districts to test the methodology and questions. The 2026 census will use CAPI (computer-assisted personal interviewing) and CAWI (computer-assisted web interviewing) methods, considered fast and cost-effective.
