Across most of Uzbekistan, excluding the northwestern regions, the winter of 2025-2026 was the warmest on record since meteorological observations began. According to data from Uzhydromet, the average temperature for the winter season was 3-4 degrees Celsius above the climatic norm, while in the northwestern areas, it was 1-2 degrees above normal.
Virtually all regions of the republic experienced warm conditions throughout all three winter months. The only exception was the extreme south of the country, where the average temperature in January was close to the climatic norm. February emerged as the warmest month of the winter, contributing most significantly to the season's high temperature readings. In mid-February, air temperatures rose to 22-27 degrees Celsius, and in the northern parts of the country and the Fergana Valley, they reached 19-21 degrees.
December and January saw alternating waves of warmth and cold—a typical phenomenon for the winter period in the region. The most notable cold spell occurred in late January, when nighttime temperatures across much of the country dropped to 5-10 degrees below zero, in Karakalpakstan, Khorezm Region, and the northern part of Navoi Region to 13-18 degrees below zero, and on the Ustyurt Plateau to 21-24 degrees below zero.
Precipitation during the 2025-2026 winter season was above normal, amounting to 110-150% of the long-term average values. In the northwestern regions, where climatic precipitation norms are traditionally low, this indicator reached 170-260% of the norm. The contrast is particularly stark compared to the previous winter, when precipitation levels were 40-70% of the norm, and in the Fergana Valley regions, less than 40%.
The highest amount of precipitation fell in December, with monthly figures in most regions reaching 150-300% of the norm. In Tashkent Region, as well as in certain districts of Syrdarya, Jizzakh, and Samarkand Regions, December was the rainiest in the last 25 years. Most of the precipitation this winter fell as rain, occasionally turning to snow.
Snow cover on the plains of the republic formed only for short periods. In mountainous areas, precipitation predominantly fell as snow, but due to the warm weather, its reserves by the end of winter ranged from 20% to 70% of the norm, and in the highlands of Tashkent Region, 100-120%.
